Bantam may have 13 or 15 minutes, middle school 15 minutes. With 12 minute periods, 9 forwards seems like a lot, 4 defensemen seems fine. For MO Youth Hockey, USA Hockey has a key role in the education materials and certifications, similar to the coaching program. For USA Hockey Officials, there are 4 levels, unlike the 5 levels for coaches. St. Louis kids get thrown into full ice against full teams that have been playing full ice together for 2 years already (HCofSTL is a little bit of an exception but it only really boosts knights).If you love hockey, you want your kids to get the chance to love hockey. It is really just that simple. It's an expensive sport, but not that different than many others. Maybe you don't take that extra family trip each year. Lessons could still be learned on how they structure hockey and development. Personally, I like equal playing time and no score kept at the younger levels.The private schools need to lead a revolt against Mid States and start their own league. They should make it in the spring, where there would be fewer club conflicts and more ice available. Some of these rosters for weekend games are a joke.
